Week 4 Song
I decided to listen to "In the Mood" by Glen Miller. Right off the bat, I loved how subtle and perfectly rhythmic the drumming was, and how it complimented that amazing intro riff that gets you hooked on the song. I also noticed how I had heard this song before in movies and TV, and remembered that it's one of those songs that's solidified in American culture. As the song goes on, I enjoyed the mainly rhythmic playing, with the occasional break for an instrumental solo. I can see how this song would have been fun to dance to back in the 1940s. One thing I noticed about this song and the others that we've listened to is that the music played is coming from very talented musicians; not a single note is missed, not a single beat is skipped, and not a single mistake is made. This music is very polished and sharp. It's cool to listen to, because I enjoy listening to talented musicians. It was also cool to look into Glen Miller a little more, and it's crazy that he disappeared in a plane crash at such a young age. Who knows what more music of his would be in movies if he lived longer.
Hi Joseph! I like the rhythmic sound of the drum as well. I didn't know the name of this song before I learn this song in the class, but I have heard of the melody before! This song has been used in Korean TV commercials. I also agree with your opinion that this music is very polished and sharp:)
ReplyDeleteHello Joseph~ I heard this song too for this week blog post!! I loved this song because it was exciting. I could know more about him when I saw your blog post. I love his song, too, but I think it's very unfortunate that an accident happened at a young age and disappeared. It so sad,,
ReplyDeleteI enjoy how you talked about how the song is like a song in American culture. I agree 100 percent with that i feel as though it is a song that everyone knows when it first comes on. I also really like how you talked about the drumming in the beginning because it starts up the vibe for how the song is going to be. Also, it is really impressive how there isn't a single mistake the whole song which super impressive for back then.
ReplyDeleteThat was also one of the first things that I noticed is that I had heard this song before as well. I find it really cool that this song has lasted this long. I also like how you acknowledged the fact of how talented the musicians behind this song are! Overall it is a very upbeat and entertaining song to listen to, and I hope that it continues it's success long into the future!
